It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Gar Irwin, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Gar was the beloved husband of the late Brenda (Cordingley) Irwin (2015), with whom he shared 44 cherished years of marriage. He was a proud father to Brett (Kristen) and Ashley, and a proud grandfather to Wyatt and Maclean, both of whom he adored. Gar will be dearly missed by his brothers Barry Irwin (Gail), John Irwin (Ren), his sister-in-law Diane Cordingley, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He also treasured the companionship of his loyal dog, Angus. Predeceased by his brother-in-law, Kirby Cordingley, Gar will be remembered for the warmth and kindness he brought to those around him.
A lifelong Ford enthusiast, Gar’s passion for these automobiles drove him through his work with Rankin Ford, Oakridge Ford, and the London Police, and fueled his joy at the drag strip, where he supported the Rankin Ford Wild Child 1965 Ford Falcon drag race car.
The most meaningful moments of Gar’s life were shared with family and friends at his cherished cottage on MacLean Lake, a place he nurtured for 44 years with pride and joy, welcoming countless guests to enjoy lakeside gatherings and creating lasting memories.
A Celebration of Gar’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Lambeth, Branch 501 (7097 Kilbourne Road), on Sunday, November 10th, from 1-4PM, with words of remembrance shared at 2:30 p.m. To avoid construction on Colonel Talbot Road, consider arriving from the west via Longwoods Road. Donations to the McCormick Care Foundation – Dementia Services would be appreciated by the family.

Barry, John, Brett & Ashley please accept my sincere sympathy in the passing of Gar.
When I received the news, many memories came rushing to mind about all the fun times we had at Long Point, MacLean Lake and of course snowmobiling.
Sorry, I am unable to be there today for the Celebration Of Life, but I will be there in spirit.

Barry and John so sorry to hear of Gar’s death. When we were kids he was always like the big brother I didn’t have. Funny, kind and with a special warmth of heart. Will be thinking of you and holding you all in the light of love as you say your good-byes.

Barry and Gail and family.
Very sorry to hear of Gar’s passing.
Gar and I were in the same grade 9 class at Central.
That year was a lot of fun but probably not so much for our teacher.
