It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a gentle soul, Mary Eileen Rivers (Jeffery). Mary or Eileen as she was known by everyone, passed away peacefully on June 14, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late William Douglas Rivers – known as “Doug”. Dear mother to daughters Barbara (Ben) and Cathy (Rob). Beloved grandmother to Paul (Pauline), Lisa, Travis (Amanda) and the late William (Majse). Great grandmother to two lively beautiful boys. Eileen grew up in the Exeter area just outside town on the Jeffery homestead. Her mother and father, William and Roxie Mae Jeffery (both deceased) had two boys, Robert(deceased) and Harry(deceased) and then Eileen came along. She did not seem to have any trouble keeping up with her big brothers.
One day she met the love of her life at Grand Bend. She married “Doug” and went to work in his grocery store in Exeter. From there they moved to London and Mom was involved in the grocery business for many years. She then went on to selling real estate which she also enjoyed as it complimented her husband’s mortgage business.
Eileen was a very eager traveler and would go anywhere with her loving husband. They visited Florida, Spain, France, Switzerland, Hawaii, out to the west coast and also the east coast. They were always on the go and they always had a dog, which was a very important part of their life together.
She was also a very accomplished gardener, seamstress, quilter, crafter and animal lover. Eileen was never one to say a bad word about anyone and everyone who knew her loved her. We all feel so fortunate to have had her in our lives.
A family graveside service will be held at Exeter Cemetery on July 8, 2022 at 2PM. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation and Celebrations, Arva (519-963-4003). If desired donations to the Humane Society of London & Middlesex would be appreciated by the family.
